James S. Gwinn, Sr.

 

     Mr. Gwinn, 55, Mountaindale, Fallentimber, RD., died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.  Born December 24, 1959 in Altoona a son of Elizabeth A. (Spanik) Gwinn, with whom he lived and the late Lee Gwinn.  Surviving is his son James S. “Jimi” (Kara Maurer) Gwinn of Tyrone, three grandchildren Keegan, Carter Jack and Sami, three siblings Robert L. (Becky Lloyd) Gwinn of Tyrone and their children Dylan and Caleb, Leanne M. (Pete) Jenkins of Mountaindale and children Krystle (Tom) and Gabe and Susan E. (Craig) Correll of Hamburg and son Lucas, his former wife Deb DiLeo Stiner of Bellwood and several aunts and uncles.  He was also preceded in death by a brother Joseph, a nephew Bobby Gwinn and a very good friend Dan Bilko.

     He was a 1978 graduate of Bellwood High School.  He retired in 2000 from BCS Construction, Altoona where he had been a Carpenter Supervisor.  Prior to that he had been employed by Greth Construction, Reading.  He was a member of the Bellwood Eagles and loved to hunt and fish.  Jim was always the “go to” guy whenever anyone in the area needed a hand.

     He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Frugality where a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, April 24, by Rev.  Robert Reese.  Burial of his cremains will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.  A special thank you is extended to Southern Care Hospice who aided greatly in Jim’s time of illness.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Fallentimber, PA.  16639
