Gloria M. Burris

Mrs. Burris, 80, Blandburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 28, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. Lovingly known as "Gram" or "Mom" she was born in Blandburg on December 2, 1936, a daughter of the late George W. and Ada M. (Beers) Lightner. She married H. Wendell Burris in Blandburg on April 10, 1955. He died February 10, 2005. She was preceded in death by two of her children David W. Burris on January 31, 1977 and Bernice M. Berger on September 7, 2016. She is survived by daughter Shelby Jean Roth of Blandburg, three grandchildren Karen Duke, Amy Jo (Matthew) Nelson and Walter (Megan) Fiedor, five great-grandchildren Hannah Grace McClellan, Liam Turchetta, Levi Kephart, Christian Nelson and Abigail Fiedor. She was preceded in death by six brothers Dennis, Alfred "Butch", Rex, Harold "Chip", Vernon "Ronnie", and Charles "Mike". Gloria is survived by a brother Arthur C. "Oss" and his wife Joyce of Mentor, OH. and a sister Shelby (Tom) Stoy of State College.

Gloria was a 1954 graduate of Reade Twp. High School and a 1979 graduate of the Altoona School of Nursing. She worked as an LPN for many years, being employed by the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg, Hillview Nursing Center in Altoona and by Orange Park Care Center in Orange Park, FL.

She loved sewing, quilting, traveling the United Sates with her children and grandchildren, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She was extremely proud to be a Navy wife of 32 years, supporting her husband through WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Her home was a place of gathering for adults and children of all ages. She took in several children from troubled homes and helped raise them. She greeted everyone that came to visit with a smile and a warm welcome. Her door and fridge was always open to everyone and her stove was always ready to prepare a warm meal to anyone who came to visit. She was well loved by many. Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her life. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

It was Gloria's wish for no visitation or services. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
