Irene A. Lovell

Mrs. Lovell, 94, a resident of Bethany Village-The Oaks Nursing Center, Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Camp Hill and Blandburg, died Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the center. She was born December 29, 1922, in Blandburg, a daughter of the late Calvin A. and Lena (Arnold) Thomas. On August 28, 1948, in Bellwood, she married John "Jack" G. Lovell who died March 10, 2007. They had resided in Camp Hill, PA. for 45 years before moving to the Bethany Village Retirement community in 2002. Surviving is a daughter Sharon M. McGinty of Carlisle, a son Duane T. Lovell in Florida, five grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three sisters Catherine Kostyack, Ellen Berger and Lillian McClellan and two brothers Calvin and Robert. In addition she has many nieces and nephews. Of special note, Irene's two sister-in-laws Arletta Thomas and Ethel Lovell, have maintained steady visitation throughout her period of illness.

Irene was a 1941 graduate of Reade Twp. High School and had served as a Tech 5th grade in the United States Army during WWII and was especially proud of her time spent in the Women's Army Corp (WAC) and the Women's Army Auxiliary Corp (WAAC) during the war. She was stationed in Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, England and Vitry, France where she worked in Foreign Correspondence. He stateside assignments included New York City and the War Department in Washington, D.C. She retired in 1975 after 19yrs employment as a Buyer for the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg.

She had been an active member of the Camp Hill United Methodist Church and spent many years volunteering by putting together the Sunday bulletins. She greatly enjoyed gardening and her backyard was always a display of flowers in the summertime. She was an excellent cook, liked to read and sew and greatly enjoyed the Winter trips that she and Jack took to Florida every year. But, above all, her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren.

Friends will be received Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 1pm until the 2 pm services at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow. Pastor Jon Hommer will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. Military honors by Richard L. Beers VFW Post #7043. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to Bethany Village Care Assurance Fund, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA. 17055.
